It's no longer a list, it's a path with detours.
It's harder than one might imagine to curate a meaningful list of 65 things that one has not experienced, shared or learned before. The entries are by no means original, they appear on just about every other life list you google.
What I believe is unique about the list is the intention. I could perform 65 physical adventures and call it a day. But, to create a forum to share personal insights, experience religious rites first hand, or help fund an education, adds a factor of social interaction and commitment that physicality can't fulfill. And, truthfully, I consider all of them challenging in their own way.
Even though an item is "checked off", it really isn't. A limitation of 65 somethings should not end the process, it should continually expand your comfort zones and widen your paths. I still perform random acts of kindness, I still try to perfect the classic French omelette, and we still host Second Sunday Supper. I hope this project provides impetus for others to start a list, but then appreciate the detours the path generates without the fears of success or failure of a list.
